AI Summary

This bill amends existing Georgia law to allow podiatric physicians, who are doctors specializing in the foot and leg, to delegate certain medical authorities to physician assistants (PAs), who are licensed healthcare professionals working under physician supervision. Previously, PAs could only receive delegated authority from medical physicians. This legislation expands that ability to include podiatric physicians, allowing them to delegate tasks such as ordering certain medications, treatments, and diagnostic studies, as well as signing medical documents related to podiatric care, provided these actions are outlined in a "job description" that details the PA's qualifications and the specific duties they will perform. The bill also clarifies definitions for terms like "alternate supervising podiatric physician" and "primary supervising podiatric physician" and grants new authorities to the State Board of Podiatry Examiners to regulate PAs working in podiatry, ensuring that these expanded roles are overseen and that patient care remains protected.
