This bill would require the Instructional Quality Commission, which is responsible for recommending curriculum frameworks to the State Board of Education, to consider including specific content on sexual health instruction in the next revision of the "Health Framework for California Public Schools." This new content would focus on educating students about dating abuse and digital violence, including topics like online safety, the risks of nonconsensual intimate imagery, deepfakes, online grooming, sextortion, stalking, and the misuse of artificial intelligence. It would also mandate age-appropriate instruction on legal rights, protections, and support resources for interpersonal violence, and ensure that the instruction is inclusive of and responsive to the experiences of LGBTQIA+ and gender diverse pupils, who are particularly vulnerable to dating violence and technology-facilitated abuse.
