This bill requires health insurance policies in Maryland to reimburse patients for services provided by graduate-level clinical interns in counseling, social work, and psychology, provided these services are rendered at an outpatient health care facility and are under the direct supervision of a licensed practitioner. Specifically, for counseling interns, the supervisor must be a board-approved supervisor meeting certain qualifications, and the services must be billed by that supervisor. For social work interns, the services must be provided under the direct supervision of a licensed certified social worker-clinical and billed by them. Similarly, for psychology interns, services must be supervised by a licensed psychologist and billed by that psychologist. This expansion of coverage is intended to make mental health services more accessible and will apply to all health insurance policies issued, delivered, or renewed in the state on or after January 1, 2027.
