This bill requires that health insurance policies in Maryland reimburse patients for services provided by graduate-level clinical interns in counseling, social work, and psychology, under specific conditions. These conditions include that the services must be rendered at an outpatient health care facility, provided by an intern enrolled in a relevant graduate program, and be under the direct supervision of a licensed professional in that field (such as a licensed clinical professional counselor, a licensed certified social worker-clinical, or a licensed psychologist). The services must also be billed by the supervising licensed professional. This change aims to ensure that individuals receiving care from these supervised interns have their services covered by their health insurance, with the act taking effect on January 1, 2027, and applying to policies issued, delivered, or renewed on or after that date.
