This bill requires law enforcement officers responding to domestic violence incidents to check if either party is a member of the armed forces, which includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, and Coast Guard. If a service member is involved, officers must search the national crime information center database for any existing military protection orders, which are orders issued by a commanding officer against a service member to prevent them from contacting, harming, or threatening a protected person, or entering certain locations. If a military protection order is found, the officer must notify the law enforcement agency that entered it into the database. Furthermore, courts must consider the existence of a military protection order as relevant evidence when deciding whether to issue a temporary civil protection order, which is a court order designed to protect individuals from harm.
