The bill also provides the Commissioner of the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation with the discretion to oversee the process of security staff or direct care staff of a jail or lock up facility where a juvenile may be detained or confined in which he or she would have contact with or come within sight or sound of any incarcerated adult persons.

AI Summary

This bill clarifies existing law to prevent confusion regarding when juveniles who are detained or confined might come into contact with incarcerated adults. Specifically, it removes language that could be misinterpreted and grants the Commissioner of the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation the authority to oversee situations where a juvenile might be held in a jail or lock-up facility for adults and could see or hear incarcerated adults or interact with the adult facility's security or direct-care staff. This aims to ensure proper oversight and prevent inappropriate contact between juveniles and the adult correctional system.
