A key change is the introduction of "multidisciplinary adult protection teams," which are groups of professionals from various fields like law enforcement, healthcare, mental health, and financial institutions, recognized by the Department of Health and Senior Services to help identify, investigate, prosecute, prevent, and treat offenses against vulnerable adults. The bill expands access to confidential reports about vulnerable adults to include members of these multidisciplinary teams when acting in their official capacity, as well as the Department of Social Services for referred cases. It also clarifies that the reporter's name will not be disclosed unless they authorize it, or if the department determines disclosure is necessary to prevent further harm to the vulnerable adult, or if the information is provided to the Department of Mental Health for investigating abuse and neglect. Furthermore, members of these multidisciplinary teams are permitted to share necessary information among themselves to benefit vulnerable adults, with the understanding that this information must remain confidential and only be used for official duties.
