This bill modifies provisions related to firearms and orders of protection, notably introducing "Hailey's Law" which allows courts to issue extreme risk protection orders, temporarily restraining individuals from possessing firearms if they pose a danger to themselves or others, and requires the surrender of all firearms upon issuance of such an order. Additionally, when a full order of protection is issued in cases of domestic violence, stalking, or sexual assault, the court must now prohibit the respondent from possessing or purchasing firearms, inform them of this prohibition, and notify the Missouri State Highway Patrol to update the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The bill also expands the definition of unlawful firearm possession to include individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence offenses or those subject to certain orders of protection, and mandates that courts report convictions for domestic assault in the fourth degree and stalking in the second degree to the Missouri State Highway Patrol for NICS updates.
