This bill amends the Rhode Island Works Program, a state program that provides cash assistance to families, by increasing the amount of child support payments that are passed directly to the families receiving assistance. Currently, the first $50 of a child support payment collected by the state is given to the family. This bill proposes to increase that amount to $100 for families with one child and $200 for families with more than one child. This "pass-through" payment is intended to provide additional financial support to families receiving cash assistance when noncustodial parents make their required child support payments on time. The bill also specifies that if multiple noncustodial parents are making payments for children in the same family, only one pass-through payment will be made to the family. This change is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
