This bill prohibits public employers in Wyoming, which are defined as the state, cities, towns, counties, political subdivisions, and their agencies, from deducting union dues, fees, assessments, or contributions directly from an employee's paycheck on behalf of a labor organization, political action committee, political organization, political committee, or any candidate for office. Violating this provision is a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine or jail time. The bill clarifies that it does not affect existing collective bargaining rights for firefighters, nor does it prevent public employees from voluntarily paying dues directly to a labor organization or its associated political fund, and it explicitly states that it does not require any labor organization to disclose its members' identities. This legislation also defines "public employee" as an employee of a public employer and specifies that public safety agencies and corporate authorities are not considered public employers under this act. The bill takes effect on January 1, 2027, and does not alter agreements made before that date.
