This bill establishes a pilot program, the Joint Associate Degree Pilot Program, requiring the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges and the Chancellor of the California State University to jointly create a pathway for former California State University (CSU) students who have completed enough coursework for an associate degree but haven't yet earned one to receive a jointly conferred Associate Degree in General Education Studies. The program will initially involve Long Beach Community College District and California State University, Long Beach, with the possibility of adding three more community college districts and CSU campuses. The goal is to provide these students with a formal associate degree, and the chancellors are mandated to report on the program's effectiveness to the Legislature by January 1, 2032. This initiative is contingent on legislative appropriation and will be in effect from July 1, 2027, until June 30, 2032, after which it will be repealed.
