This bill establishes the "Motivational Boot Camp Incarceration Program" within the department of corrections, a two-year program for eligible inmates aged seventeen to twenty-one who have been convicted of a nonviolent criminal offense (excluding certain serious felonies) and have at least two prior nonviolent convictions. The program emphasizes rigorous physical activity, intensive counseling and treatment to address criminal behavior, and instills self-discipline and motivation. Individuals sentenced to this program will undergo a two-year period of confinement, beginning with an initial investigation to ensure they are physically and mentally capable of participating and have received provisional approval from the department of corrections. Successful completion of the program will result in the expungement of the offense from the individual's criminal record, while unsatisfactory performance will lead to the imposition of the original jail or prison sentence. The program is subject to a sunset provision, meaning it will expire six years after its effective date unless reauthorized by the general assembly.
