This resolution designates February 13, 2026, as West Virginia Silver Jackets Flood Resiliency Day at the Capitol and recognizes February 9-13, 2026, as West Virginia Silver Jackets Flood Resiliency Week, acknowledging the significant and devastating impact of flooding on West Virginia's communities, infrastructure, economy, and citizens, which has caused substantial property damage and tragic loss of life over the past decade, with flash flooding being the state's greatest natural hazard. The resolution emphasizes the importance of emergency preparedness for all citizens and communities, encouraging participation in flood resiliency programs to mitigate risks, reduce fatalities, and lessen economic devastation, and highlights the collaborative efforts of various federal, state, local, private, and volunteer agencies, including the Army Corps of Engineers, the West Virginia State Resiliency Office, the National Weather Service, and the West Virginia Emergency Management Division, in raising public awareness and educating individuals on preparedness and appropriate actions.
