This bill allows for the creation of special motor vehicle registration plates for the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to hockey in the state. The plates will be designed by the Hall of Fame in collaboration with the division of motor vehicles and approved by the state police, and will be used in place of regular registration plates. To obtain these special plates, a minimum number of prepaid orders must be met, and in addition to the standard registration fee, there will be a forty-dollar ($40.00) issuance surcharge, with twenty dollars ($20.00) going to the general fund and the other twenty dollars ($20.00) going to the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame to support hockey in the state. Subsequent renewals will incur a ten-dollar ($10.00) surcharge also for the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame must use any Rhode Island-sourced funds received for the benefit of Rhode Island-based charitable organizations and will be required to submit an annual accounting report. This act will become effective immediately upon its passage.
