This bill authorizes the town of Petersham to allow two police officers, Richard D. Cooley Jr. and David A. Shoemaker, to continue their employment beyond the standard maximum age requirement, permitting them to serve until they reach 70 years old, retire, or are otherwise relieved of duty, provided they are deemed mentally and physically capable of performing their duties, with the town potentially covering the cost of medical examinations to assess their capacity. Importantly, this legislation also stipulates that no further deductions will be made from their salaries for retirement under chapter 32 of the General Laws, and upon retirement, they will receive a retirement allowance equivalent to what they would have received if they had retired at age 65.
