This bill expands the authority of the Warwick Municipal Court by granting it original jurisdiction over violations of zoning ordinances, historical area zoning, minimum housing standards, housing maintenance and occupancy codes, subdivision of land regulations, and the state building code, along with any local Warwick ordinances or regulations related to these matters. It also allows the court to issue equitable remedies such as injunctions, orders for repair or demolition of violating dwellings, and to compel compliance with relevant laws. However, the bill removes the court's ability to sentence individuals to jail time, though it retains the power to impose fines of up to $500 for each violation. The bill also clarifies that appeals from judgments in these expanded jurisdiction cases can be made to the superior court for a new trial.
