This bill, effective October 1, 2026, prohibits individuals from possessing or controlling a firearm within the corporate limits of Class 1 and Class 3 municipalities in Alabama unless they have a valid form of identification, defined as any identification listed in Section 17-9-30(a) of the Alabama Code, and can produce it upon request by a law enforcement officer. While a violation of this provision is a Class C misdemeanor, an individual will not be in violation if they can correctly identify themselves to the officer and their identity can be confirmed, or if they produce a valid form of identification in court, in which case the charge will be dismissed and all related records expunged.
