This bill allows members of the New York City Police Pension Fund, who are subject to certain retirement laws (specifically, those under Article 11 of the Retirement and Social Security Law, often referred to as Tier 2 members), to receive credit for prior service as an assistant district attorney within New York City or as an examining attorney for the New York City Commission to Combat Police Corruption, provided this service occurred before they joined the uniformed force of the New York City Police Department. This prior service will now be treated as if it were service in the uniformed force for the purpose of determining eligibility for and the amount of their retirement benefits from the New York City Police Pension Fund. To make this transfer, members must pay or transfer all required member contributions, plus 5% annual interest, into the police pension fund. If a member transfers or withdraws these contributions from the New York City Employees' Retirement System (NYCERS), their membership in NYCERS will end, and they will no longer retain any credited service there. This change is intended to benefit certain police officers by recognizing their previous public service in their pension calculations.
