This bill, to be known and cited as the "Santiago/Ramos/Liu Police Protection Act," requires any law enforcement agency in this State purchasing and using a new motor vehicle to have tinted windows which permit only the minimum light transmittance required pursuant to federal law, rule, or regulation. The bill applies only to vehicles clearly and conspicuously marked as those used for law enforcement purposes. The window tinting requirement would apply to law enforcement vehicles purchased on or after the first day of the fourth month following the date of the bill's enactment. The title of the bill honors New York City police officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, as well as Jersey City police officer Melvin Santiago, all of whom were murdered in 2014.
