This bill allows for the interment of cremated pet remains alongside human remains in certain cemeteries, defining "cremated pet remains" as the recoverable bone fragments and container residue from the cremation of a pet. Cemeteries can permit this alongside human interments only if the cemetery company provides written approval to the lot owner and charges are clearly listed. However, cremated pet remains cannot be placed in a columbarium (a structure with niches for cremated remains) or a public mausoleum (a building for burial crypts). While this bill permits such interments, it also clarifies that cemetery companies are not obligated to allow them and can prohibit them, and that this provision does not require cemeteries to allow interments if prior approval wasn't obtained at the time of sale or in advance.
