AI Summary

This bill enacts the "Physician Assistant Licensure Compact" (PA Licensure Compact) into Georgia law, allowing for greater portability of physician assistant (PA) licenses across participating states. It amends existing Georgia law to define a "physician assistant" to include those holding a "compact privilege," which is an authorization granted by a "Remote State" (a participating state where the PA is not licensed) to allow a PA licensed in another "Participating State" to practice there. The bill also requires criminal background checks for PA licensure in Georgia and establishes the framework for Georgia's participation in the PA Licensure Compact Commission, a national body that will oversee the compact's implementation, including data sharing, rulemaking, and dispute resolution, aiming to improve patient access to medical services while maintaining patient safety.
