AI Summary

This bill enacts the "Physician Assistant Licensure Compact" (PA Licensure Compact) into Georgia law, allowing physician assistants (PAs) to practice across state lines more easily. The compact establishes a framework for PAs to obtain a "compact privilege" to practice in other participating states, provided they hold an unrestricted license in their home state and meet certain qualifications, such as graduating from an accredited program and holding current national certification. It also revises the definition of a physician assistant to include those holding a compact privilege and requires criminal background checks for all PA licensure applicants in Georgia. The bill creates a PA Licensure Compact Commission to oversee the compact, manage a data system of PA licenses and disciplinary actions, and establish rules. Importantly, the compact clarifies that the state where the patient is located has jurisdiction over the PA's practice, and it outlines procedures for adverse actions, dispute resolution, and enforcement among participating states, while also preserving the authority of individual state licensing boards.
