This bill expands the types of projects eligible for funding under California's local assistance grant program for wildfire prevention and home hardening education. Previously, this program, administered by the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, supported activities like public education, defensible space improvements, and technical assistance to local agencies. Now, it will also cover projects by local governmental entities that involve acquiring or installing mobile rigid dip tanks or similar infrastructure designed to provide water accessible by helicopter for firefighting in areas designated as very high or high fire hazard severity zones. These zones are identified by the State Fire Marshal or local agencies as being at significant risk of wildfire.
