This resolution commends Scouting America on its 116th anniversary on February 8, 2026, recognizing its long-standing dedication to serving the youth of New York State. Founded in 1910 as the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and inspired by Lord Robert Baden-Powell's program, the organization, now known as Scouting America, has expanded its programs to include younger and older youth, such as Cub Scouting, Venturing, Sea Scouting, and Exploring. Its mission is to instill patriotism, courage, and self-reliance, with Scouts upholding the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law to prepare them for purposeful lives. Over its 116 years, Scouting America has promoted education, conservation, and leadership through camping and other activities, with nearly 130 million Americans participating and over one million youth currently involved. The resolution also acknowledges the significant achievement of Eagle Scout, attained by over two million young people, and notes the organization's 2019 policy change to allow girls into all Scouting programs. The resolution further expresses the Legislative Body's belief that organizations with such noble aims and accomplishments deserve celebration and recognition throughout the Empire State, and resolves to transmit a copy of this resolution to Scouting America.
