Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to the establishment, incorporation, construction, or increase in capacity of for-profit hospice
AI Summary
This bill, by amending the public health law, prohibits the establishment of any new hospice that is operated on a for-profit basis or by a for-profit entity, and also prevents any increase in the capacity of existing for-profit hospices. This means that any hospice seeking approval for its creation, incorporation, or construction, or any existing for-profit hospice seeking to expand its services, will not be granted permission if it is intended to operate for profit. This restriction applies to any such approvals sought on or after the date the bill becomes law, which is immediately upon its enactment.
