This bill extends indefinitely the provisions that collect a $3 surcharge on criminal offenses and noncriminal moving traffic violations, which are currently set to expire on July 1, 2026. This collected revenue is deposited into a trust fund managed by the Department of Management Services and is used to fund the state agency law enforcement radio system, a critical communication network for law enforcement agencies, and to provide technical assistance for statewide regional law enforcement communication systems. The Department of Management Services can retain funds to cover its administrative costs for managing this system and providing technical assistance, with the specific uses of these funds determined in conjunction with a Joint Task Force on State Agency Law Enforcement Communications.
