This bill establishes new rules regarding the broadcasting of middle and high school post-season athletic contests, defining "qualifying athletic activity" as any post-season or playoff interscholastic athletic contest, and "broadcast" as any audio or video transmission of such an event. It grants schools the right to broadcast their own teams' qualifying athletic activities and prohibits organizations that regulate interscholastic conferences or events from entering into exclusive broadcast agreements that would prevent a "local broadcaster" (defined as a state-based radio/TV station or a school-sponsored broadcast group) or the school itself from broadcasting these events, provided the local broadcaster has a prior relationship with the school or enters into an agreement. The bill also makes conforming amendments to existing laws related to community schools, STEM schools, and college-preparatory boarding schools to include references to these new broadcasting provisions.
