This bill allows establishments with existing liquor licenses to temporarily extend their service hours for alcoholic beverages, specifically from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup Tournament, which runs from June 11, 2026, to July 19, 2026. This means that for this period, the usual restrictions on operating hours for on-premises consumption of alcohol will not apply, and licensees will not need to apply for or pay fees for this extension, though they must notify their local licensing authority or police department at least 24 hours in advance. However, individual cities and towns have the option to opt out of these extended hours, or to impose their own limitations or modifications, as long as they do not restrict service hours to less than what is normally permitted, through a resolution passed by their respective city or town council. This act will become effective immediately upon its passage.
