This bill requires county recorders to maintain construction records related to "home hardening," which means repairing or replacing structural features of a home to meet standards outlined in the California Wildland-Urban Interface Code, making them more resistant to wildfires. Additionally, the bill mandates that the State Fire Marshal, by January 1, 2030, compile and publish a report detailing the number of homes in moderate, high, and very high fire hazard severity zones that are either already hardened or need further hardening, along with an estimated cost for necessary improvements, and submit this report to the Legislature by July 1, 2030. The bill also acknowledges that if these new duties are determined to be state-mandated costs for local agencies, the state will provide reimbursement.
