This bill moves the Critical Incident Review Team, which reviews child fatalities and near fatalities within the child welfare system to help prevent future tragedies, from the Department of Human Services to the Office of Inspector General, and also modifies the team's membership. Previously, the Commissioner of the Bureau for Social Services chaired the team, but now the Foster Care Ombudsman will serve as chairperson, with the Commissioner of the Bureau for Social Services also being added as a member. The bill also clarifies that the team will review incidents involving children in the custody of, or with known cases with, the Department of Human Services, or those whose situations were brought to the department's attention through a report, regardless of whether an investigation was initiated.
