Bill Summary
The purpose of this bill is to permit tow trucks, or wreckers to have one or more flashing or revolving blue lights in addition to the already allowed flashing or revolving yellow lights authorized by this chapter and by §17C-15-27 of this code. The bill provides that the blue light shall only be equipped on the rear of the vehicle and a tow truck may only operate with blue lights while the tow truck is stationary on the side of the road or highway while responding to a disabled vehicle, nor may a tow truck may not operate with blue lights at any time while in motion.
AI Summary
This bill allows tow trucks, also known as wreckers, to use one or more flashing or revolving blue lights in addition to the yellow lights they are already permitted to use. However, these blue lights can only be installed on the rear of the tow truck and can only be operated when the tow truck is stopped on the side of the road or highway while assisting a disabled vehicle; they cannot be used while the tow truck is in motion. This change modifies existing law that generally restricts blue flashing lights to police vehicles.
