Bill Summary

This bill requires regents institutions to waive all tuition and mandatory fees for a veteran who has a permanent service-connected disability rating of 100 percent and who applies to and is admitted for enrollment at the institution. A veteran shall only be eligible for a waiver if the veteran is not eligible for or has exhausted any other available federal or state sources of financial assistance for such tuition and fees. The institution shall prorate the waiver to cover any difference between other federal or state financial assistance obtained and the amount of such tuition and fees.

AI Summary

This bill requires public universities governed by the board of regents to waive all tuition and mandatory fees for veterans who have a permanent disability rating of 100 percent, as certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and who are admitted to the institution. To qualify for this waiver, veterans must not be eligible for or have already used up any other federal or state financial aid for tuition and fees, such as the Pell Grant program or other education benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs. If a veteran receives some other financial assistance, the university will adjust the waiver to cover the remaining cost of tuition and fees.
