This bill modifies continuing education requirements for insurance producers, who are individuals licensed to sell insurance. It changes the law so that the commissioner of insurance *must* approve educational offerings approved by another state's regulatory agency if they don't conflict with Minnesota law, and also requires approval for courses leading to nationally recognized professional designations. The bill also clarifies that courses offered by bona fide insurance trade associations are not considered to be affiliated with insurance companies, even if the company sponsors them, and allows up to four hours of continuing education credit per licensing period for an insurance producer's active participation in a state or national professional insurance association, such as serving on a board or committee, provided the association is registered as an education provider.
