This bill requires West Virginia public educational institutions, including elementary and secondary schools and accredited institutions of higher education, to record the immigration status and nationality of all enrolled students. The bill defines "immigration status" broadly to include citizens, permanent residents (both lawful and conditional), non-immigrants (temporary visitors), individuals without legal authorization to be in the U.S. (referred to as "illegal aliens"), and refugees and asylees. Furthermore, these institutions must annually publish aggregated demographic data of their enrolled students, including their immigration status and nationality, and report this information to the superintendent of public instruction for publication on the state department of education's website.
