This resolution recognizes the 175th anniversary of the Young Men's Christian Association, commonly known as the YMCA, acknowledging its long-standing role as a community cornerstone since its founding in the United States in 1851. The YMCA's mission, rooted in Christian principles, aims to foster healthy spirit, mind, and body for all individuals, guided by values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Over its history, the organization has continuously adapted to community needs, strengthening society by nurturing youth potential, improving health and well-being, bridging differences, fostering relationships, and creating a sense of belonging. With nearly 2,600 locations nationwide serving over 10,000 communities and millions of people, including significant involvement in Florida where one in every eighteen residents is a participant, the YMCA provides a wide array of programs such as childcare, afterschool activities, swim lessons, camping, youth sports, meal programs, and health and fitness initiatives, all aimed at addressing social isolation and loneliness by promoting achievement, well-being, and connection.
