This bill authorizes the State of Mississippi to issue up to $42,000 in general obligation bonds, which are essentially loans backed by the state's full faith and credit, to help Calhoun County purchase extrication tools for the Slate Springs Volunteer Fire Department (VFD). The State Bond Commission, a body responsible for issuing state bonds, will manage the sale of these bonds and ensure the proceeds are deposited into a dedicated fund, the "2026 Calhoun County Slate Springs Volunteer Fire Department Fund." This fund will then be used to cover the costs of the extrication tools, and any remaining money after the purchase will be used to pay back the bonds. The bonds will mature within 25 years and must be issued before July 1, 2030, with the act taking effect on July 1, 2026.
