This joint resolution reconstitutes the Booker T. Washington Commemorative Commission, which was initially established as a Senate commission to honor Booker T. Washington with a statue in the Old Senate Chamber, into a joint commission with members from both the Senate and the House of Delegates. The commission's responsibilities are also broadened to include studying and recommending a suitable statue and its location on Capitol Square, a prominent public space in Virginia, to further commemorate Booker T. Washington's significant contributions and legacy, particularly his work towards racial reconciliation, which was highlighted by his address to a joint session of the Virginia legislature.
