This bill requires acupuncturists registered in the state to complete 45 hours of continuing education every three years, with at least 15 hours per year, to maintain their license and practice. Acceptable continuing education courses are those approved by the National Certification Board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (NCBAHM) or a successor entity, and the department may also specify required subject areas. Acupuncturists are exempt from this requirement during their first triennial registration period after being licensed, and exceptions may be granted for reasons such as health, military service, or other good cause acceptable to the department. Those not actively practicing acupuncture in the public sphere can also be exempt by filing a statement with the department. The bill also establishes a $45 fee for this continuing education requirement, in addition to the regular triennial registration fee, to cover administrative costs. Licensees must attest to completing these hours and keep documentation, and failure to provide it upon request can lead to disciplinary action. The bill also allows for conditional registration if requirements are not met but deficiencies are agreed to be made up.
