This bill amends existing law to expand the security responsibilities of personnel employed by the Alabama House of Representatives and Senate. Previously, their duties primarily covered specific floors of the Alabama State House and other areas occupied by the Legislature. Now, their responsibilities will also explicitly include the new Alabama State House, the legislative parking deck and park adjacent to it, and security during official legislative events held elsewhere in the state, as coordinated with the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency. The bill also clarifies that the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency, in coordination with the Legislative Council, will be responsible for the perimeter and entry point security of both the existing and new Alabama State House. For the purposes of this section, the "new Alabama State House" is defined as the building located in Montgomery bounded by Pelham Street, South Jackson Street, and Washington Avenue. This act is set to become effective on October 1, 2026.
