AI Summary

This bill proposes changes to existing law regarding homestead exemptions from Hall County school district ad valorem taxes for educational purposes for senior citizens. Specifically, it aims to increase the income cap for the existing exemption for residents aged 62 to 65, raising it from $25,000 to $40,000 in household income for the preceding taxable year, while maintaining a $30,000 exemption on the assessed value of their home. Additionally, it introduces a new exemption for residents aged 66 and older, granting them an exemption on the first $480,000 of their home's assessed value, with no income limitation. The bill also clarifies that individuals who have already applied for an exemption will not need to reapply as they age into new exemption categories, and it mandates a referendum in November 2026 for voters in the Hall County school district to approve or reject these changes, with the new provisions taking effect on January 1, 2027, if approved.
