Bill Summary

AN ACT To amend Article 12 of Chapter 5 of Title 48 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to ad valorem taxation of airline companies, so as to require that at least 50 percent of revenues collected from a local tax jurisdiction's levy of ad valorem taxes on such tax jurisdiction's apportionment of aircraft by the commissioner be dedicated to the maintenance and operations of airports within the tax jurisdiction; to provide for a definition; to provide for an effective date and applicability; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

AI Summary

This bill requires that at least 50 percent of the ad valorem taxes collected by a local tax jurisdiction on its portion of aircraft valuation must be used for the maintenance and operations of airports within that jurisdiction. Ad valorem taxes are taxes based on the assessed value of property, and in this context, it refers to the taxes levied on a portion of aircraft that are attributed to a specific local tax jurisdiction by the commissioner. The bill also defines "airport" as it is defined in another section of Georgia law and specifies that these provisions will take effect on January 1, 2027, applying to all tax years beginning on or after that date.
