AI Summary

This bill, known as the Georgia Maternal Mental Health Improvement Act, mandates that health insurance policies in Georgia cover comprehensive maternal mental health screenings and care for women during pregnancy and for up to 12 months postpartum, including services provided through telehealth. It also requires healthcare providers to screen pregnant and postpartum women for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, which are common mental health conditions that can affect women from pregnancy through the first year after childbirth, at specific intervals during and after pregnancy, and to provide referral information and educational materials. The bill establishes a quality metrics program to track screening and treatment rates, including by race, ethnicity, and location, and creates a three-year pilot program for remote maternal mental health screening and monitoring, prioritizing high-risk and rural populations, with funding contingent on legislative appropriation.
