This bill amends existing law to expand the definition of peace officers, specifically deputy sheriffs, to include those employed by the County of San Joaquin. Previously, this expanded definition, which grants authority to act anywhere in the state but primarily while performing custodial duties or during emergencies, applied to deputy sheriffs in certain other counties like Butte and Calaveras who are responsible for maintaining county custodial facilities and the custody, care, and security of inmates.
