Specifically, it changes the minimum light transmittance requirement for side windows forward of or adjacent to the driver's seat, rear side windows on certain vehicles, and rear windows from seventy percent to fifty percent, meaning darker tint will be permissible in these areas. The bill also introduces a tolerance of plus or minus seven percent for measurements taken by the commissioner or their designee when testing windows for compliance. Additionally, it updates the safety inspection requirements to include checking windows for violations of these new light transmittance percentages, rather than a blanket seventy percent rule. These changes will take effect sixty days after the bill becomes law.
