This bill updates Iowa's electrical code by adopting the 2023 edition of the National Electrical Code (NEC), published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), but with specific modifications and exclusions. Key changes include altering requirements for ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection in kitchens and unfinished basement areas, exempting certain dwelling types from arc-fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) requirements in kitchens and laundry areas, and modifying rules for receptacle placement on kitchen islands and peninsulas.
