This bill modifies how chiropractic services are covered by Minnesota's Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare programs, which are state and federal programs providing health coverage to low-income individuals and families. Specifically, it removes the previous age restriction for Medical Assistance coverage of chiropractic services, allowing adults to receive these services, and expands the types of covered treatments to include medical evaluation and management, manual therapy, spinal manipulation, and therapeutic exercises for acute and chronic spinal pain and related neuromusculoskeletal conditions. While the bill maintains a limit of 24 visits per year for these services unless prior authorization is obtained, it also clarifies that x-rays are covered only if they are of the full spine or specific spinal areas and are necessary to diagnose subluxation, a condition where vertebrae are out of alignment. Additionally, this bill repeals a provision that limited MinnesotaCare coverage of chiropractic services to individuals under 21, effectively removing that age restriction for MinnesotaCare as well. These changes are set to take effect on January 1, 2027, or upon federal approval, whichever comes later.
