This bill, effective July 1, 2026, bans the possession of "large-capacity magazines," which are defined as ammunition feeding devices that can hold more than ten rounds, or any parts that can be assembled into such a device, with specific exceptions for permanently altered devices, .22 caliber tube magazines, and tubular magazines in lever-action firearms. The bill makes it unlawful for individuals to manufacture, import, transfer, own, or possess these large-capacity magazines, with penalties including up to five years in prison and a $25,000 fine, though exceptions exist for government officials, law enforcement, and the military. Current owners of large-capacity magazines must either surrender them for destruction, permanently modify them to hold ten rounds or fewer, or remove them from the state by July 1, 2027, and those who inherit such magazines have 120 days to comply with these requirements.
