This bill, by enacting R.S. 13:981.1(C), aims to address court reporter shortages by allowing courts to use digital transcription platforms and virtual court reporting. Specifically, it permits courts to use digital transcription platforms to preserve court records and allows certified court reporters to transcribe records remotely using approved cloud-based digital recording systems, meaning they don't need to be physically present to certify a transcript. Furthermore, certified digital reporters can remotely operate recording equipment in trial courts, with court personnel, who do not need digital certification but must be trained, able to operate and monitor the recording systems.
