This bill enacts a new provision, R.S. 40:1666.1(A)(8), to provide state supplemental pay for full-time fire protection officers employed by the Lakefront Management Authority, an agency responsible for managing the lakefront area. Eligible officers will receive an additional $600 per month from the state, on top of their regular salary paid by the Authority from its own revenue. To qualify, officers must have completed at least one year of service and, if hired after March 31, 1986, must also have passed a certified firefighter training program equivalent to National Fire Protection Association Standard 1001 Firefighter I and II, or an approved Louisiana State University Firemen Training Program, along with an airport rescue and firefighting certification. The bill also states that if supplemental pay for other officers is increased, the pay for these Lakefront Management Authority officers will also be increased by the same amount. This Act's effectiveness is contingent upon the adoption of a related constitutional amendment proposed in House Bill No. ____ of the 2026 Regular Session.
