This bill allows students who transfer schools during the school year to participate in school activities immediately at their new school, provided they meet the activity's requirements, behavior standards, skill levels, and there's space available. However, this immediate eligibility does not apply to athletic activities if the student was recruited, induced, or unduly influenced to transfer primarily for athletic purposes, in which case they would be ineligible for one year. The bill also clarifies that this restriction does not affect eligibility for nonathletic activities, which are defined as contests in music, forensics, dramatics, and other interscholastic extracurricular activities that are not sports. The bill amends existing law (K.S.A. 72-7117) to include this new definition and to change "interschool" to "interscholastic" when referring to extracurricular activities, and it repeals the old version of that law.
