This bill amends existing law to require the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT) to develop a program for prioritizing the maintenance of transportation facilities located in wildland urban interface zones, which are areas where development and wildland vegetation meet and pose a fire risk. Specifically, the bill adds a new duty for the DOT to create this maintenance prioritization program. Furthermore, it mandates that the DOT implement a plan to prioritize maintenance for transportation facilities that serve communities in these zones and are accessible by only one route. This plan will involve consulting with local entities like municipalities and community organizations to create a prioritized list of state-maintained roads and highways in these areas for wildfire season preparation, general maintenance, and fuel load management. The DOT is also required to submit a report detailing its prioritization methods and the list of prioritized roads to the legislature by December 20, 2026.
